Lisa's Birthing of Elora

Elora Lily was born December 19th at 12:15 p.m at home in Ancaster.
We started having surges on Friday night. Our midwife visited us at
3:30 Saturday morning, but left to catch up on sleep. The surges
became definitely more intense around 8:30am, so we called her again.
She was however, at another birth! Our second midwife we knew was
already on vacation (as Elora was six days past her estimated due
date), the third midwife we had visited was off duty. We got to meet
a fourth midwife- Anne, as I was getting out of the bathtub.
Anne arrived at 9:30am to check on us-- we were much further along
than anyone had anticipated. Anne had to find another midwife to come
to the birth immediately- the next person on duty wasn't able to
arrive until 12- so she had someone from the Oakville Area Midwives drive
in (Diane, who actually lives in Mississauga). As Anne was consulting
with her clinic- it was briefly entertained that we should go to the
hospital- however, we were too far along and Anne didn't want to move
us as we were in a "comfortable zone." We somewhat tried to slow things down a little so Diane could make it. She did! Much of the morning was a bit of a blur, but Jason told
me we were able to relax almost immediately after a surge- it wasn't
like the videos, but still very calm. We were in the pushing phase for about an hour- I really didn't know it was that long. We found the HypnoBirthing worked for us right
until the very last 25 minutes or so, things then became a little more "traditional" with the coaching and more of a "pushing" situation. Elora came out with her cord wrapped around her neck and her arm- so I had some tearing.  Overall, I found the HypnoBirthing experience excellent. I would not change a thing about my birth experience.
